Ivan stars but Model crash out
DUBLIN and Meath are into the semi finals of the Eirgrid Leinster U20 Football Championship.
Dublin topped Group 1 following a 1-15 to 0-11 win away to Wexford.
Model keeper Ivan Meegan scored two points, one an incredible effort from play after a barnstorming run up the pitch from his own goalmouth, as Wexford led by 0-8 to 0-5 at half-time.
However, they hit just three points in the second half and Ross Mcgarry’s 47th minute goal for Dublin was the end of the contest.
Westmeath were 1-16 to 1-10 winners in Longford.
Three points ahead at half-time, a 50th minute Tom Molloy (1-2) goal gave Westmeath a 10-point lead.
Ruairi Harkin fisted a goal for Longford.
Ethan Devine netted twice for Meath in a 2-13 to 0-13 win at home to Laois.
Jimmy Hyland (0-11) impressed as Kildare’s 3-16 to 0-4 win over Wicklow in Newbridge ensured second spot in Group 2.
Wicklow led briefly but Kildare were 1-11 to 0-2 clear at half-time, with Brian Mcloughlin netting their opening goal.
Half-time substitute Padraig Nash scored two goals.
Yesterday, Offaly were 2-16 to 1-7 winners over Louth in Tullamore.
Goals from Conor Dunne and Cian Farrell helped Offaly to a 2-10 to 0-2 halftime lead.
Sam Mulroy netted a 55th minute penalty for Louth.
