DURAN DURAN: THERE’S SOMETHING YOU SHOULD KNOW
BBC4, 9pm
ICONIC British rock band Duran Duran take over BBC4 tonight with two brand-new documentaries that give a rare insight into the megastars.
Boys On Film – A Night With Duran Duran is a real treat, whether you’re a devoted fan or not, including previously unseen archive footage and rare demo tapes, as well as exploring the band’s inspirations across the decades since they formed in 1978 in Birmingham.
In There’s Something You Should Know, Simon Le Bon, John Taylor, Nick Rhodes and Roger Taylor talk candidly about their amazing career, charting the highs and lows.
It’s been an extraordinary journey for them, from playing small nightclubs in Birmingham to filling out stadiums around the world and releasing 14 groundbreaking albums.
There has been the fame, the fortune, the meltdowns, the hits, the misses, the videos, the tours, the fans, the partying and the supermodels – some of whom, like Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell, share memories here.
Other talking heads include Boy George, Mark Ronson and Nile Rodgers while, of course, the whole doc is set to the soundtrack of their hit music.
London fashion designer Antony Price says: “They had the balls to run around with all the make-up and the hair. This lot didn’t give a damn and they’d worked out that women quite liked it. They were a breath of fresh air.”
Stay tuned after for Duran Duran: A Night In, which sees the band members sit back and talk through personally selected TV clips.
You’ll be digging out your Rio album (or buying it) before the evening is out...
