LAST 16: COLOMBIA v ENGLAND

- FROM DAVID MCDONNELL

COLOMBIA boss Jose Pekerman says his team will have no fear of facing England.

Yerry Mina’s towering down-header saw Colombia finish top of Group H .

But they had been on the way out until Poland scored against Japan after an hour and Mina’s header, 16 minutes from time, meant they not only qualified, but topped the group.

Pekerman’s side now face the Three Lions on Tuesday and he said: “Obviously, England can have a good day or a bad day. “England is a young team, with harmony and you

can tell they have a lot of faith in themselves. They have excellent individuals, a lot of confidence and passed through the group stage comfortably.

“I’m sure these next games will be full-on, to-the-death matches – you need to win or you are out.

“I think England have what it takes to do well, but it will be a match in which we are going to be confident of playing at a high level and getting a good result.”

Colombia suffered a first-half blow when James Rodriguez went off injured.

But, for Senegal, the match turned into a nightmare.

Unable to get the goal they needed to keep their place in the top two, they finished with an identical record to Japan.

But they went out on the yellow card rule, having picked up six to Japan’s four.
