DAN & DUSTED

Stoute’s ace Day can make it pay

- Each Way Edge.

DANNYDAY gets the vote to repeat his victory of two years ago in the Northumberland Vase (1.30) at Newcastle.

The Sir Michael Stoute trainee captured the first-ever running of the Pitmen’s Derby consolation, getting up close home to beat Haines by a neck.

It’s fair to say things haven’t gone to plan for the son of Dansili since as he missed the whole of the 2017 campaign through injury.

Dannyday has had two outings this season and has done enough to suggest the fire still burns.

After 700 days off the track, he made his comeback in a valuable handicap over a mile and six furlongs at Goodwood last month, finishing a thoroughly creditable fourth to Platitude.

The six-year-old then went off a 10-1 shot for the two-and-a-half-mile Ascot Stakes at the royal meeting 11 days ago, and looked to find the stamina test beyond him in coming home 10th of 19 behind Lagostovegas.

Back on the all-weather, Dannyday is two from three on artificial surfaces. Jim Crowley’s mount is capable of a big run off a handicap mark of 95 and is only 4lb higher than when victorious two summers ago.

After a luckless third last year,

(right) is the one to be on in the Group 3 Chipchase Stakes (12.55).

The evergreen eight-yearold was denied a run before finishing strongly to go under by a head and a neck to Koropick, but has been running consistently well in 2018

– including when edged out by Sir Dancealot in a valuable conditions sprint at Hamilton at the beginning of the month.

Newcastle’s opening Jack Berry House Handicap (12.20) looks wide open, but

– out of the frame just once in six tries this season – should give another good account.

At Newmarket, makes a quick return to action for the Group 3 Betway Criterion Stakes (1.45).

After his defeat of Kimberella in Scotland, the David Elsworth-trained son of Sir Prancealot went off at 33-1 for the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot last Saturday, finishing seventh to Merchant Navy.

The ease in grade here will help and Sir Dancealot has gained three of his five career wins at this seven-furlong trip.

The Listed Betway Empress Fillies’ Stakes (1.10) can go to who impressed with a five-length debut supremacy at Goodwood at the beginning of the month.
