WOMAN AND MAN DIE IN WATER TRAGEDIES
Incidents at marina & river probed by police
TWO people have lost their lives in water-related tragedies in recent days.
Mum of three Edelle Mcglade died after falling from a boat at Portglenone Marina, Co Antrim, on Thursday morning.
Two days later Frank Donnelly passed away while fishing in a river at Benburb, Co Tyrone.
It is understood a Lithuanian man used CPR on Mr Donnelly, who was in his 60s, but was unable to save him. Both tragedies are being probed by police.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman, aged in her 40s, whose body was recovered from the water in the vicinity of Portglenone Marina during the early hours of Thursday, June 28. A postmortem examination will be carried out to establish the cause of death.”
In relation to Mr Donnelly’s passing, the spokesperson added: “A postmortem examination will be carried out to establish the cause of the death which is not believed to be suspicious.”
The air ambulance was called in a bid to save Mr Donnelly.
A NIAS spokesman said: “The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service responded to a 999 call at 12.44pm on Saturday, June 30, following reports of a river incident in Benburb, Co Tyrone.
“NIAS dispatched a rapid response paramedic and an A&E crew to the scene.
“The charity air ambulance was also tasked to the incident. No-one was taken from the scene.”
Mrs Mcglade, who was from Portstewart, Co Derry, was laid to rest in Agherton cemetery following Requiem Mass at Star of the Sea Church in the town yesterday.
Her death notice read: “Suddenly Edelle RIP. Devoted mother of Ruairi, Eilis and Riain and much loved daughter of Geraldine and the late Patrick Joseph [Pat], dearly beloved sister of Aidan, Maggie Mcgill and Fiona Harkin and loving grandmother of Annabelle, Patrick and Iola.
“Sacred heart of Jesus have mercy on her soul. Deeply regretted by her sorrowing sons, daughter, mother, brother, sisters, brothers in law and family circle.”
