Doc is fairy quad mother
Grateful mum names 1 of 4 tots after medic
AN OVERJOYED mum of quads has named one her new babies after the doctor who delivered her.
Hindu Kaye-kisambira, 27, gave birth to two identical girls and two boys after a complicated pregnancy.
The girls were not equally sharing their placenta – leaving one with a reduced blood flow.
But all were delivered safely by Dr Asma Khalil, heading a team of more than 30 medics, on June 21. They were the first quads born at St George’s Hospital in Tooting, South London, for 13 years.
Lawyer Hindu, of Cobham, Surrey, mum to Haris, two, said: “I knew I was in the best hands with Asma. I can never thank her enough. It was lovely to see her reaction when I told her I’d named the first girl after her.” Hindu carried the babies for 32 weeks and had twice-weekly scans to monitor them. She was transferred to St George’s from her local hospital at 24 weeks. The girls were born first, weighing 2lb 11oz and 3lb 7oz, the boys weighed in at 3lb 7oz and 3lb 12oz.
Dr Khalil, a consultant obstetrician, said: “Quadruplets are incredibly rare. Delivering the babies was honour enough – but having one named after me makes the experience even more special.”
Asma’s sister is Hana, her brothers Ahmed and Ayub.
There were just two quad births in England and Wales in 2014, three in 2015 and five in 2016.
