Meghan’s celebrity style steals

Duchess happy to follow where screen legends led

- BY STEVE MYALL

JUST like Prince Harry, the fashion industry is head over heels in love with Meghan.

The Duchess of Sussex’s style has brought praise but her outfit at a recent polo match suggests it may not be all her own work.

That hat and dress did look rather familiar – but if you’re going to steal a polo style, who better than the one Julia Roberts rocked in Pretty Woman?

Here we revisit other great looks the ex-suits TV actress borrowed from other screen stars... US First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy became a 60s fashion icon in pillbox hats and Chanel suits. The look clearly Suits Meghan too and this outfit pressed the right buttons with fashionistas when the Us-born Duchess chose it for a Buckingham Palace reception. Elegant Hepburn made huge fashion strides with her highwaisted trousers, like these in The Philadelphia Story from 1940. Meghan’s no slacker in a cool pair of trews either. The Lara Croft actress turned global peace ambassador donned a chic tuxedo at the Baftas in 2014. Meghan looked jolly nice too in an Alexander Mcqueen trouser suit at an awards ceremony in February. For Royal Ascot the Duchess channelled Audrey Hepburn as Eliza Doolittle in 1964’s My Fair Lady. Meghan’s angled titfer more than nodded to the huge hat Eliza had at the races. She looked loverley... Hollywood legend Houston is renowned for her vampish style. Here, with her slicked hair, traffic-light-red lipstick and noir styling the Duchess could be part of the Addams, not Windsor, family.
