DONEGAL FURY AT SUPER 8
DONEGAL are demanding answers on the ‘Super 8’ series after being told they have to play Dublin at Croke Park.
The Central Competitions Control Committee yesterday confirmed the counties will meet at headquarters on Saturday week in what is designated as a neutral fixture for both sides, despite the fact that Dublin have played all of their home League games at Croke Park since 2011 and the vast majority of their Championship fixtures.
It means that Dublin effectively have two home games in the last eight stage of the Championship, one more than the other seven counties, while Donegal will be the only county that will have two away fixtures.
A Donegal statement read: “Following the announcement by the CCCC regarding
venues for the All-ireland quarter-final group stage (Super 8s) games CLG Dhún na ngall are to seek a meeting with GAA officials to seek clarification on how any county may use a ground as both neutral and a home venue. “The intention of the meeting is to ensure a level playing field for every team who will qualify for the All-ireland quarterfinal group stage and ensure that no team has any advantage over any other team.” There have been calls for the game to be played in a more neutral venue such as Clones but the CCCC resisted that when fixing it and, in any event, appear to be bound by the rules at this stage of the Championship which state
