Ulster will fry until mid-july
Brief lull and then sizzling sun returns
THE heatwave is set to take a breather today as temperatures dip to 19C.
But it’s only a temporary respite from the searing conditions as the hot spell returns tomorrow and is expected to remain until the middle of the month
Yesterday, one of the hottest spots in the UK was the Giant’s Causeway in Co Antrim, where thermometers peaked at 29.1C.
The reading is all the more remarkable as onshore breezes usually hold coastal temperatures in check with inland areas experiencing the highest values.
But before the heat returns with a vengeance, there might even be a spot of rain today as some early cloud passes overhead.
But the Met Office said the skies will brighten as the day goes on with “long periods of sunshine developing”. It added it will be much cooler than yesterday with light northwesterly winds holding temperatures at 19C.
Friday and through the weekend, looks as though the high pressure will “maintain largely dry and settled weather”. However, there is still the chance the “odd shower may develop during the afternoons”.
Farmers and gardeners will likely be watching to see if any rain has an affect on crops and the hosepipe ban.
Temperatures look likely to start getting hot again with Saturday hitting around 24C and Sunday’s values something similar.
The beginning of next week looks, at this stage, to be bright and sunny with temperatures in the low 20s at least.
Some forecasts are predicting no significant change in the weather until July 17 at he earliest.
