MURDER VICTIM’S BODY ‘LAY FOR DAYS’
Detectives quiz man, 28, after remains found at sheltered accommodation
POLICE have launched a murder probe after the body of a man who may have been dead for days was found at a flat.
It is understood the remains could have lain undiscovered at sheltered accommodation in Banbridge, Co Down, until Monday.
A 28-year-old man is being questioned on suspicion of murder.
SDLP councillor Seamus Doyle said: “His body
has maybe been there for a couple of days.”
The remains were found at Millmount Court at around 4.50pm on Monday.
Mr Doyle said other shelter residents were left shaken by the death.
He added: “I saw a couple that have been there a good while and there was one guy who was sitting there trembling.
“He had last seen him [the man who died] at the off licence or bar on Friday night.”
Mr Doyle urged anyone who can help police with their investigation to come forward.
He added: “There is real shock and sadness in Banbridge following the death. My thoughts, and the thoughts of my colleagues, are with the man’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
“I would urge anyone who has any information to contact the police or Crimestoppers.”
The PSNIS Serious Crime Branch are investigating the suspected murder. Detective Chief Inspector Eamonn Corrigan said: “I am appealing to anyone who has any information to contact police.
“I am particularly keen to speak with anyone who was in the area of Millmount Court on the evenings of Friday July 6 and Saturday July 7 and noticed anything suspicious.
“Please call 101 quoting reference 1000 09/07/18.”
