PM bid to send Brexiteers on early holiday
THERESA May was accused of “running scared” from Brexiteer Tories by trying to send them on holiday early.
MPS will today vote on a Government motion to start summer recess on Thursday.
They were due to break for six weeks next Tuesday.
It came as the PM last night caved in to Tory Eurosceptics over a crucial Brexit bill.
She accepted four amendments to the Trade Bill, lodged by Jacob Rees-mogg, aiming to sink her Chequers plan.
A Labour source said: “She sounds like she is running scared of her own MPS. She caved in to Brexiteers. Now she wants Parliament to rise nearly a week early so there can’t be time for a vote of no confidence.”
Eloise Todd, of anti-brexit campaigners Best for Britain, said: “Even an early recess on Thursday might not come early enough.
“The Government can’t deliver anything right now. Theresa May is leading a zombie government.”
It came as MP Scott Mann quit as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Treasury over Brexit plans, the ninth to do so in nine days.
Ex-education Secretary Justine Greening called for a second referendum. But Mrs May said her plan “sets out the right deal for the UK”.
She told Farnborough International Airshow, Hants, yesterday: “We are leaving the European Union and forging a new future.”
Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury Peter Dowd said: “The White Paper lies in tatters and Theresa May has no authority left.”
