Carjack thugs ran me over & took my baby

Mum relives ordeal as police hunt brutal gang

- BY LOUIE SMITH

A BRAVE mum has told how she was run over by carjackers who sped off in her vehicle with her four-week-old daughter still strapped in the backseat.

Clare O’neill, 39, grappled with the two thugs who pounced as she was trying to get baby Eliza out after pulling on to her driveway.

She clung on to the car, an Audi A3, as it roared off but lost her grip and was dragged under its wheels.

Police launched a huge search and Eliza was found dumped but unharmed still in her car seat at a health centre 45 minutes later.

Yesterday detectives released a photo of Clare in her hospital gown with the adorable tot in her arms.

Clare said: “Eliza is thankfully safe and well, but the people responsible clearly knew she was in my car when it was taken, putting the life of our four-week-old baby at risk as a result of their personal greed.”

CRUSHED

The shaken mum, now recovering at a secret location, suffered a gash to her head, severe bruising, a chipped tooth and injuries to her right arm which was crushed.

Clare screamed “my baby, my baby” in the attack at her home in Acocks Green, Birmingham, on Thursday afternoon.

Police believe she may have been followed before the incident by two Asian men in their early 20s.

Det Insp Jim Munro said: “This incident has shocked the whole area. We will leave no stone unturned in our search.”

In a plea to catch the crooks, Clare added: “Due to the injury to my arm I am now unable to hold Eliza for the next four or so weeks.

“The life of my daughter was endangered... please come forward and assist the police.”
