- BY NIALL O’CONNOR

AN Irishman is missing and his wife is in hospital after they were caught up in Greek wildfires while celebrating their honeymoon.

The couple, who are in their 40s and were staying near Athens, had to run into the blaze as their hotel became engulfed in flames.

They have been named locally as marketing executive Zoe Holohan and Brian O’callaghanwestropp, both from Dublin.

Last night a source said: “It was a scene of total chaos. They were forced to flee from their hotel and into the inferno. They jumped into a passing car but the flames were raging on both sides.

“They were forced out of the vehicle and tried to make a run for it. In the smoke and the flames they became separated.

“She suffered burns to her head and hands and is now in a Greek hospital recovering. Her husband is missing.”

A search team is scouring the burn zone for Mr O’callaghan-westropp and police are checking hospitals and centres for survivors.

It is believed the couple chose Greece for their honeymoon as Ms Holohan had an interest in the culture from her college days.
