Nine be the glory as Rec go clear at top of table

COMBER REC extended their lead at the top of the NIWFA Electric Ireland Championsh­ip with an impressive win over their nearest rivals.

They eased to a 3-0 victory over Carnmoney Ladies (above) to stretch nine points clear at the summit.

Two goals from Shannon Mccullough and a third from Olivia Brown sealed the dominant win for Comber who remain the team to beat this season.

Meanwhile, the top two sides in NIWFA South One battled out a 1-1 draw last week.

Downpatric­k Ladies and St James’ Swifts had to settle for a share of the spoils - it leaves Downpatric­k three points clear at the top with a game in hand.

In South Two Ballymacas­h Young Ladies continue to lead the way after an exciting victory over Dromara Village.

In what was a five-goal thriller, Ballymacas­h emerged on top to claim a 3-2 win.

Belfast Swifts stay second in the table - and nine points adrift of the leaders - after a

2-1 win over Banbridge Town, while Mountjoy United stay fourth after their 4-2 success over Kilmore Rec.

Elsewhere, Coleraine remain rooted to the bottom of North One despite earning a battling point against second-placed Armagh City.

In North Two, St Oliver Plunkett and Shamrock Ladies finished 1-1.

Tonight in the Championsh­ip sees East Belfast Ladies host Killen Rangers, while next Tuesday night (July 31) the Foyle Belles take on Crewe United in North One.
