SUPER BRAD PITS HIS WITS AGAINST GLENAVON AND SCORES HIT

- BY GARETH FULLERTON

LINFIELD coach Scott Boyd praised his players as they marched on in the Supercupni yesterday.

The young Blues made it two wins from two as they edged past Glenavon in the Minor Section.

A single goal from Stephen Bradley saw Boyd’s Under 13 side earn a 1-0 win over their Irish League rivals.

It came on the back of Monday’s 1-0 win over St Johnstone.

“We got the goal from Stephen Bradley after about 20 minutes, from a Jack Young corner. It was a great win against a very good team,” Boyd said.

“The players are playing with great confidence, and that comes from goalkeeper Rian Brown and filters right through the team.

“We are doing well, and a point against Glentoran on Wednesday will secure us a berth in the semi-finals of the Supercupni.

“That’s a great incentive for us. The game against Glentoran will be another good learning curve for the players.

“There might be a big crowd of Linfield and Glentoran fans there so that will add to the occasion.”

Meanwhile, there were no repeat heroics from Glentoran who fell to a

3-0 defeat to St Johnstone.

The Glens came from four goals down to claim a remarkable 5-4 win over

Glenavon on Monday.

But the East Belfast men failed to register a goal in their second Minor game on Tuesday.

Both teams were on the goal trail on Monday with respective 5-0 and 17-0 victories, but there was little to separate the sides yesterday as they fought out a 1-1 draw.

Jaydyn Withers broke the deadlock for Greenisland but Callum Wynne equalised for Bertie Peacocks.

Coleraine Academy were out of luck against West Ham as they fell to a 2-0 defeat, while Portadown bounced back from their opening day defeat to the Hammers by claiming a 2-0 victory over Mid-ulster rivals Dungannon Swifts.

Reeds FC had a slight improvement on their 17-0 hammering by Bertie Peacock Youths on Monday as they conceded 11 unanswered goals against Ballinamallard United.
