GEORGE AT HIS BEST TO SAVE ROCKY UNITED

- BY CHRIS SHERRARD

MANCHESTER UNITED bounced back to winning ways in the Junior Section last night – but not without a serious sweat.

Having crashed to defeat to Co Londonderry on the opening night, the pressure was on the young Red Devils going into their game against Rangers in Ballymena.

And amid a nervy display, they needed a late, late show from George Walters (above) to earn them all three points.

United had to withstand an injury-time onslaught as keeper Joe Lowton pulled off a good save and Reegan Aiken saw his shot creep agonisingly past the post for the Gers.

Now the kids from Old Trafford need to build on that result when their bandwagon rolls into Portstewart this evening for a clash with unbeaten Club NI who were impressive again yesterday.

Lee Harkin once again caught the eye for Co Londonderry but he was powerless to prevent his side slipping to a 2-0 defeat.

A large crowd at Anderson Park in Coleraine saw some excellent technical ability on display by the two sets of local players.

In the end, goals from Charlie Lindsay and Callum

Marshall did the business for the IFA boys.

Elsewhere, holders Co Antrim collected maximum points, beating Co Fermanagh 3-0.

Front pairing Sean Paul Mcallister and Liam Carr set them on their way with Dale Taylor adding a third in the second half.

Co Down were held to a 0-0 draw by Cherry Orchard while Co Armagh also drew against southern opposition, Dundalk SL with Dane Mccullough dispatching a wonderful leftfoot free-kick to secure a share of the spoils.

Cameron Crook (2) and Ryan Mcdaid were on target for Co Tyrone as they beat North Dublin SL 3-1 at Clough.

Game of the day came in Ballymoney where Charlton Athletic eventually found a way past GPS in a game that ended 4-3.

The Addicks’ bounced back from their opening defeat thanks to goals from Aaron Henry, Harry Beadle, Mack Reilly and Tolu Ladopo.

Plymouth Argyle beat Chivas 1-0, Southampton were 3-1 winners over Strikers while Leeds United went down 2-1 to Colina – Simon Diaz and Alejandro Monsalves with the goals.
