Fury shows Wilder side

Tyson targets heavyweight showdown

- BY JACK RATHBORN

TYSON FURY is gunning for Deontay Wilder after confirming talks are at an advanced stage to make the fight happen.

Fury made his comeback after more than two years out against Sefer Seferi in June and is set to face Francesco Pianeta next month, though the German is not likely to cause him problems.

Should he come through that, Fury will look to jump several levels to take on the Bronze Bomber (right) for the WBC title in December after Anthony Joshua failed to strike a deal to decide the undisputed heavyweight champion.

Fury’s promoter Frank Warren earlier said he was confident of sealing the showdown

The lure of becoming a twotime champ so quickly after returning to the ring appears to be too good to resist for Fury.

“I can confirm me and Deontay Wilder are in negotiations,” he said. “Very close to being done. Frank told you all on TALKSPORT this morning. It’s out there now.

“I can reveal negotiations are very strong for December. We’re almost done with this deal.

“I won’t be looking over Francesco Pianeta, he’s going to give me the right fight and the right work to prepare me for Deontay Wilder. I’ve got to flatten him first, then Wilder, let’s dance. You’ve been dealing with s***houses in the past, Eddie Hearn and Anthony Joshua.

“I’m a man of my word, if I say I’ll fight you, I’ll fight you. I’ll knock Francesco Pianeta into next week. Then I’ll knock you spark out too. Good luck.”

Warren said: “We’re close to making this happen. Is it too soon? The next fight will give us the answer.

“The way Tyson is looking in the gym, he’s lost another couple of stone, he’s very focused.

“Tyson doesn’t care where it happens. He’ll fly to the States if needed.

“If I didn’t think he was ready I wouldn’t put him forward. If he comes through the Pianeta fight in August, I expect him to fight Wilder before the end of the year. He wants it.

“He feels good about everything. He’s in a good place at the moment both physically and mentally.”
