ALL THE NEWS & DRAMA FROM THE FINAL DAY OF THE SUMMER TRANSFER DEADLINE Goodison ready to rock with Yerry & the pacemakers
EVERTON won transfer deadline day – and their new boy Bernard believes the success is a sign of things to come at Goodison.
The Brazil international, fancied by Chelsea and Inter Milan, was the first of FOUR big-name signings unveiled by the
Blues yesterday.
Incredibly, the Everton negotiating team, led by
Marcel Brands and chairman Bill Kenwright, also took Colombia World
Cup star Yerry Mina from Barcelona for £28.5million after Manchester United got cold feet.
Barca agreed a loan deal too for their midfielder Andre Gomes for a fee of around £2m for the full season.
Everton were then involved in a late dash to reach an agreement with Chelsea over a 12-month loan of Kurt Zouma. They will find out today whether it has gone through.
The clubs sealed a deal giving them extra time to work out details – beyond the 5pm deadline.
Both Bernard (left) and Mina insisted they had come to put Everton on the map and win things. Winger Bernard, who signed a four-year deal, said: “This is an ambitious club aiming to achieve real success with Marco Silva’s ideas and the new players coming in.” Mina said: “It is important that the club want to fight for something. This is why I am here.
“I have spoken a lot to the coach and I know his passion for Everton.”
