Two arrested after cannabis stash is seized

A MAN and woman have been arrested in connection with a £1million cannabis seizure.

Police said the operation was part of an investigat­ion into the illegal supply of drugs.

The man, 48, and the 37-year-old woman remain in police custody.

Detective Inspector Pete Mullan said: “They were arrested in the Lisburn Road area of South Belfast on Thursday.

“Searches were carried out and cannabis with an approximat­e street value of £1million recovered. The man and woman remain in police custody at this time.

“These arrests and seizures are evidence of our ongoing commitment to removing and disrupting the illegal supply of drugs into Northern Ireland.

“The seizure of these drugs has removed a substantia­l

“Two residents were out walking past the play park and found them there, lying on the ground.

Everyone should be able to walk the streets without any danger and thankfully residents acted quickly to remove these drugs from causing any serious harm.

“This proves the challenges we have to continue to raise the concerns around drugs and to ensure children and everyone can safely walk our streets without any dangers. We can do this together, drugs ruin lives, families and communitie­s.”
