Man suffers head injuries in attack
POLICE are investigating after a man suffered head injuries in an assault yesterday.
The attack in the New Lodge Road area of North Belfast was reported to police at around 7.30am.
The scene was cordoned off while the PSNI gathered evidence and forensics were called in.
A police spokesman said: “A man has been taken to hospital with head injuries following an assault in the New Lodge Road area of Belfast. Police enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.”
Blood-stained tea towels could still be seen scattered on the road this morning.
Police officers and forensics were seen scouring the area for potential evidence.
A spokesman for the Ambulance Service said they took the man to Belfast Royal Victoria Hospital for treatment.
He added: “The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 07:28 on August 10 following reports of an assault in the New Lodge area of Belfast.
“We dispatched one Emergency Ambulance crew to the incident.
“Following assessment and treatment at the scene, one male was transported to the Royal Victoria Hospital.”
A police spokesman urged any witnesses or anyone with information on this incident to contact Antrim Road PSNI station.
