THE RELLE DEAL

Weld gelding can Lond a Maiden for Moyglare

- BY PETER O’HEHIR

ALTHOUGH off the track since April, the Dermot Weld-trained Crecerelle should be tough to beat in the Londis Roscommon Maiden in Roscommon tonight.

The Moyglare-owned gelding has raced only once this season, when he bumped into Cimeara in a three-year-old handicap in Leopardstown.

He did little wrong that day, going down by a halflength to a Jim Bolger-trained filly, which has progressed to win at both listed and Group 3 level.

Crecerelle’s two best efforts, including a second to Amadeo Modigliani at Galway last year, were achieved with ease in the ground, conditions he’ll encounter tonight.

He missed an intended engagement in Galway due to a bruised foot, but represents Weld here, ahead of Jassaar, a costly failure on his debut at Ballybrit but a colt that will almost certainly win his maiden in the coming weeks.

Aidan O’brien’s once-raced Freetown is a potential threat. But, if Crecerelle runs to his rating of 78, or performs above that standard, he should be good enough to land the spoils.

In the earlier two-year-old action, Invincible Karma, representing in-form Jessica Harrington, sets the standard in the opening maiden.

Beaten a half-length by the smart Decrypt in a hot Curragh maiden on his second start, he struggled when tried in Group 2 company behind Van Beethoven in the Railway Stakes, beaten less than five lengths.

Back in maiden company, this 92-rated Invincible Spirit colt, the mount of Colm O’donoghue, looks capable of opening his account, at the probably expense of Joseph O’brien’s Calorific, which caught my eye on his second start, when finishing fourth to Ducketts Grove in Cork last week, Ballydoyle contender The Corporal and Jim Bolger’s Vocatus (rated 82).

The Foran Equine 2-Y-0 Auction Race affords the Ger Lyons-trained Kestrel Prince a good opportunity to return to winning form.

A narrow winner on his debut over this course and distance, this Lethal Force gelding could manage only third behind Iridessa and favourite Cardini in Killarney on his second start but might be capable of conceding weight to his rivals here.
