Hugo could lose captaincy

-

HUGO LLORIS faces losing the Spurs captaincy for his drink-drive shame after admitting he struggled to return to “real life” after his World Cup win.

The France skipper missed training after he was stopped by police in west London in the early hours of yesterday before spending seven hours in custody.

Lloris apologised “wholeheartedly” but boss Mauricio Pochettino must decide whether or not to play him on Monday as Spurs weigh up his punishment.

The 31-year-old could be fined and stripped of the captain’s armband, with

Harry Kane and Jan

Vertonghen possible replacements.

A Tottenham spokesman said:

“The club takes such matters extremely seriously and it will be dealt with internally.”

Lloris played Tottenham’s first Premier League game of the season at Newcastle only a week after returning to full training with Pochettino (below). And in an interview published in French sports daily L’equipe yesterday, the France goalkeeper revealed his emotional rollercoaster since lifting the World Cup in Moscow on June 15.

The star admitted: “It is really difficult after two such strong months in a group to re-find my bearings in everyday life.

“You have to start again to do the simple things, making something to eat, doing the dishes, cleaning the table.

“It is real life, I love it, I need it, but the change has needed an adjustment.”
