Coolmore proves plain Sailing for William’s British raider

- BY PETER O’HEHIR

BRITISH raiders dominated the Group 3 Coolmore Stud Fairy Bridge Stakes in Tipperary last evening as 9/2 shot One Master got the better of Dan’s Dream.

Trained by William Haggas and dashingly ridden by Colm O’donoghue, One Master got home by a half-length from Mick Channon’s Dan’s Dream (Billy Lee) with Ship Of Dreams faring best of the Irish-trained fillies in third spot.

“Mr Haggas was confident of a good run and when I spoke to James Doyle and Ryan Moore, they were both complimentary about the filly,” said O’donoghue.

Blue Uluru (9/1) landed the listed Kilfrush Stud Abergwaun Stakes over five furlongs, showing plenty of speed all the way before holding Hit The Bid by three-quarters of a length, with favourite Different League in third spot.

A five-furlong specialist, now finished for the season, Blue Uluru was the second leg of a treble for Ger Lyons and champion-jockey Colin Keane, also successful with Gold Jasmine in the two-year-old Claiming Maiden and Tennessee Wildcat in the Meadowview Stables Race.

Meanwhile, today’s Curragh card includes four maidens. And Aidan O’brien’s, right, Pink Dogwood, a full-sister to Dubai Duty

Curragh, although beaten 10 lengths by

Lady Kaya, must be fancied to open her account in the Irish

Fillies Maiden.

Third behind Dabiyr on his recent debut at Gowran Park, the O’brien-trained Prepare For Battle might cope well enough with the drop back to seven furlongs to land the Kildare Brewing Co Lock 13 Brewpub Maiden.

And another Ballydoyle inmate Cardini, beaten in two visits to Killarney, should be capable of defying top-weight, off a mark of 91, in the premier nursery. But the nap vote goes to Dermot Weld’s colt Jassaar, well-fancied for his debut at the Galway Festival, but too green to do himself justice. He finished eighth in the maiden won by Wednesday’s Bellewstown handicap winner Astronomer and, with that experience under his belt, should be tough to beat in the Curragh

Home Of Champions Maiden, in which Ballydoyle colt Sir Erec looks the chief threat.

And, in Down Royal, Peter Fahey’s Peregrine Run, winner of a competitive handicap chase in Killarney last week, gets the nod over Woodland Opera in the Irwins Bakeries Hurdle.
