Our holidays to family affair...

-

I love our big family holidays for the chance to take time out from a stressful job and I appreciate the different generations of our family, as well as revisiting places that carry lots of happy memories.

The moment we arrived in Cornwall as little kids, our grandad, who adored us, would take my sister Madeline and me straight down to Daymer Bay, buy us an ice cream and build a huge sandcastle. It was something we looked forward to all year.

Now when our three nephews come to stay, we enjoy doing the same thing with them. Our favourite outing is getting everyone together to build a great big dam across the stream that runs down the beach, then when the water gets really deep, watching the dam give way, releasing a huge flood.

Our grandma is so brave and up for anything, including being flung off a banana boat into the water at high speed when she was over 80!

She teaches us card games like Newmarket, whist and Pit, and is really sharp and funny – holidays wouldn’t be the same without her.

I enjoy having good friends to stay so I can share with them the experiences that made my childhood special and helped make me the person I am today.

I was really glad the Beaumaris holiday I organised for my mum worked so well. The whole family was on great form, remembering happy times. Climbing in Snowdonia was spectacular and everyone loved the speedboat trip up the Menai Strait where my grandad loved to sail.

Corrie star Kym Marsh recently returned from a villa holiday in Italy with her children David, 23, Emilie, 21, and Polly, seven, along with her parents Pauline and David, her auntie Pam and Emilie’s boyfriend Mikey. She said: “It was so lovely to get away from everything and spend some quality time with my family. It was part of the reason we stayed in a villa – we wanted a place where we could all be together.”

Colette and dad Tony have been spotted with the couple and children Kai, eight, Klay, five, Kit, two, and baby Cass at their holiday home in Barbados. With four children under the age of eight it’s no wonder Coleen relishes the extra pairs of hands.Even supermodels still holiday with their parents. ?? ?? I feel really privileged being included in Sally and John’s family holidays. I love the company and catching up with the grandchildren who all live in London. I still enjoy swimming in the sea at Daymer Bay and Polzeath – we’re often the only family not wearing wetsuits!I help cook and I bake puds and cakes which always go down well when everyone comes in hungry after a long day on the beach or the golf course. The family go musselling and fishing so we sometimes catch our own supper. Sally even collects watercress from a nearby stream to make what I call Roadkill Soup – no one’s died of it yet, luckily!I also enjoy taking everyone out for a meal so I feel I’m making a contribution. When my grandchildren were toddlers, my late mother rented a big seaside house overlooking Chichester Harbour with squash and tennis courts, table tennis, badminton, snooker table, indoor swimming pool, you name it.Four generations of the family would get together, swim, walk, play sport, cards and meet up for meals. It was enormous fun and a real treat just to be together.
