Mcaree is relishing the derby
Coleraine Ballymena Tonight, 7.45
COLERAINE boss Rodney Mcaree is relishing the fierce derby dynamic of tonight’s showdown with Ballymena United at the Showgrounds.
Mcaree, who succeeded Oran Kearney 11 days ago, took charge of the Bannsiders for the first time in Saturday’s scoreless draw with league leaders Linfield.
Next up is the little matter of a partisan shootout with David Jeffrey’s Sky Blues who are looking to bounce back from Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at Cliftonville.
“It’s a great start for me as Coleraine manager – both massive games,” said Mcaree. “Linfield at home and then a derby against Ballymena.
“I actually went to one of the derbies last year at the Ballymena Showgrounds and I suspect it might be a different type of atmosphere than the Linfield game.
“There’s always a little more at stake, so everyone looks forward to these fixtures.
“I want to be standing in the dugout for these big games. We’ll give Ballymena the respect they deserve but it’s a game we’ll certainly be trying to win.”
Ballymena boss Jeffrey was frustrated not to take something from Saturday’s trip to Cliftonville and expects another massive test against the Bannsiders.
“Coleraine are an excellent side and I anticipate a very, very tough battle,” he said.
“Rodney is a great footballing man and did tremendously well at Dungannon, so I’ve no doubt he’ll want to make his mark at Coleraine.”
