FIVE STAR SHOW
Hillsborough proving they have bridged the age gap & looking good for another title after winning League Two last time out
HILLSBOROUGH Juniors showed their class in an emphatic 5-1 win over Lurgan Town Juniors in Division One of the under-13 section of the Lisburn Daily Mirror Youth League.
Boro agreed to move up a year early last season and won Division Two. Few would disagree they are favourites to win Division One this time.
Lurgan manager Tim Lennon said his team could have scored three goals but he added Hillsborough were always the better side and played some great passing football.
“We still have a couple of players to come back but Hillsborough look good enough even at this early stage to be installed as favourites to win the League again,” he stressed.
Hillsborough boss Dean Geddis said: “Lurgan competed well in the opening 20 minutes but after we scored I thought they faded a bit.” Geddis is certain last season’s decision to play the team in the older age group has worked well.
They got the early opportunity to play 11-a-side football and this season they are probably benefiting from the fitness side of it and also having the experience of playing on wider pitches.
Hillsborough were three goals up at half-time though it took them 15 minutes to open the scoring. Theo Mccusker gave them the lead before Jake Niblock added two, the first a header.
Billy Morrison scored the goal of the game when he came from right back down the wing before cutting in to score with a left foot shot.
Ryan Geddis completed the scoring for Hillsborough, who also missed a penalty. Robert Wilson got a late consolation goal for Lurgan from a 25-yard free kick.
