SEASIDERS ESCAPE TIGHT CORNER

- BY CHRIS SHERRARD

CHIMNEY CORNER pushed Bangor all the way before the Seasiders registered another win on

Saturday.

A goal down after just 13 minutes at the Bangor Fuels Arena with Haskins on target, the hosts came storming back to lead through Jack Mallin and Mark Cooling (pen). But the Antrim side ensured the teams were on level terms again with Robinson on target.

However, Ben Arthurs headed home a Cooling corner and the same man grabbed a second to leave Bangor sitting pretty at the break – a 4-2 lead they would hold throughout the second period.

Goals from Martin Mcavoy, Mark Tweedie and Denis Vesely earned Brantwood maximum points away at Ballymoney United. Newtowne beat Ballynure OB by a single goal while Desertmartin fought back from 2-1 down to pile more misery on Donegal Celtic with a 3-2 win.

The second batch of first round games in the produced another glut of goals.

Abbeyview, Rathcoole, Derryhirk United, Magheraveely, St Oliver Plunkett, Connor and Hillsborough Boys all scored for fun but none could match Dervock’s haul of 12 at home to Macosquin. Kenny Kane led the way with five of his side’s goals while Tommy Elder netted four and there were also strikes by Nicky Kerr, Johnny Nicholl and Jack Lindsay.

Previous winners Harryville Homers edged through at Newmills while they were joined in the second round by fellow BSML sides Ballykeel, Ruby’s Rovers and Ahoghill Thistle.

In the Galgorm Blues and Newpark Olympic both won their Division Two games 6-0 with Riverdale also victorious.

In Division Three, Cullybacky Blues, Holywell, Randalstown Ramblers and Cushendall all picked up the maximum three points.

Meanwhile, in the

Clough Rangers knocked out stablemates Carniny Rangers 4-1.
