Tom: Venom is based on Hardy man UFC to be shown exclusively on new channel costing £60 a year

- BY MARTIN DOMIN

TOM Hardy has revealed he based his character in new film Venom on Conor Mcgregor – saying he “wants to have a scrap with everybody”.

The 41-year-old actor told how he was influenced by the personality of the Dubliner for his starring role in the Spider Man spin-off.

The Revenant star named the hot-headed UFC fighter as a “keynote” for his comic book character.

But when asked if he should be offended by the comparison he told RTE Entertainment: “I don’t think he’d be bothered really.

“He was definitely a keynote but I don’t know if you’d recognise him – it was more of an interior choice.” CONOR Mcgregor has unveiled his Proper Twelve whiskey brand but Eleven is where you will see him fight.

From the new year bouts will be shown on Eleven Sports after it struck a deal with the UFC – ending a five-year partnership with BT Sport.

In total, 42 UFC shows will be shown along with 150 hours of programming.

It means Mcgregor’s last fight on BT Sport is set to be his challenge for Khabib Nurmagomedov’s lightweight crown on October 6 in Las Vegas.

The Dubliner recently signed a new six-fight deal with the UFC having not fought for the promotion since 2016.

Mcgregor fans will need to fork out £5.99 per month or £59.99 per year to subscribe to the stream-only sports channel.

A spokesman from Eleven Sports said: “UFC has become a massive brand which has built a hugely dedicated and engaged following over 25 years, making it a perfect fit for our fan centric strategy.

“We are a big supporter of combat sports across our global markets and the fresh and innovative approach that we have taken with our properties has been very successful.

“We are looking forward to creating the same added value for the legions of MMA fans in the UK and Ireland.”

The channel, owned by Leeds United chairman Andrea Radrizzani, has acquired the rights to La Liga and Serie A for the next three seasons.
