Sovereign to cash in for O’brien

- BY PETER O’HEHIR

DONNACHA O’BRIEN will renew his partnership with odds-on favourite Ten Sovereigns in the Group 1 Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes in Newmarket tomorrow.

Ireland’s champion jockey elect has ridden the colt to his two victories at the Curragh and will be on board again because Ballydoyle stable-jockey Ryan Moore will be in America to ride Mendelsshon in the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup in Belmont Park tomorrow.

Ten Sovereigns will be joined in the line-up by stable-companion Sergei Prokofiev (Seamus Heffernan) while Ballydoyle will mount a three-pronged assault on the Group 1 Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes, with Fairyland (Donnacha), Gossamer Wings (Wayne Lordan) and So Perfect (Seamus Heffernan), alongside

Sheila Lavery’s Lady Kaya, the mount of regular partner Robbie Colgan.

In the Royal Lodge, Donnacha will be on board Mohawk, which will lead the Ballydoyle challenge, accompanied by Cape Of Good Hope (Heffernan) and Sydney Opera House (Lordan).

Donnacha will be hoping to reach the century-mark for the season in Ireland at Dundalk tonight, where he’ll be on board Ming in the featured Group 3 Recruit Island Diamond Stakes.

And Joseph O’brien’s charge, successful over this course and distance on debut, and also successful at Gowran Park and Navan, is napped to register his fourth win from six starts.

Last time, Ming performed creditably, but was unlucky in running when sixth to Carrick in the Grade 1 Secretariat Stakes at Arlington Park in Chicago.

An improver, Ming is preferred to Global Giant and Mootasadir.

Elsewhere on the card, Cyrus Dallin, which landed a gamble for Denis Hogan at Laytown before being claimed, might follow-up in the seven-furlong apprentice handicap.
