RYAN’S STAR TURN

Mckevitt at the double as Windmill leap-frog Strikers to go top of table

- BY HARRY ALLEN

A RYAN MCKEVITT double against East Coast Strikers on Saturday enabled Windmill Stars to leap-frog their oponents to go top of the under14 group of the Daily Mirror Lisburn Junior Invitational League.

Stars played some lovely football to control the game and it was only in the closing stages when Windmill had taken a two goal lead before Strikers at last showed their full potential.

But by then Ryan Mckevitt had given a lesson in finishing with both of Stars’ goals. Windmill took the lead on 20 minutes when Mckevitt won the ball before beating a couple of defenders and slotting the ball into the corner of the net.

Windmill should have added to the scoreline before they deservedly got a second goal. Centre half, Callum Bradley, found Lee Fallon, who curled the ball round three defenders and Mckevitt did the rest for his second goal.

Windmill manager, Liam Murphy, said he was happy with the result though they might have added more goals. “We played well and that is the main thing. You get three points for a win of any sort.”

He added that the club as a whole were progressing well with the seniors now in Mid Ulster Intermediate A. Murphy would like to think a lot of that success was due to the club’s youth policy.

A disappointed East Coast boss, Kyle Farley, said they were second best and his only consolation was that they played good football.

Farley added: “It is only our fourth season and we are progressing well but we have reached the stage of losing some good players to National League clubs. But our development policy is still paying dividends.
