- BY CHRIS SHERRARD

HOLDERS Queen’s University will begin their defence of the Match Intermediate Cup with a home tie later this month.

The students have been drawn to host Groomsport of the Amateur League 1C in round one as they bid to repeat their exploits of last season.

Also at home are Moyola Park who host a dangerous Dunloy side while Newington YC welcome Maiden City to Solitude and Lurgan Celtic are at home to Rosario YC. There’s an all-pil encounter when Sport and Leisure Swifts play host to Armagh City in West Belfast.

And the tie of the round is also a meeting of families foes when Banbridge Town host Lisburn Distillery.

Whites boss Colin Mcilwaine (above) told Match on Tuesday: “Of all the draws we could have got that is one of the hardest.” Crumlin Star are tipped for a long run in the competition and they welcome Wellington Rec first up.

On their travels are Dollingstown but it’s not much of a trek as they head into Lurgan to play Oxford Sunnyside, one of the form Mid-ulster sides at present.

Annagh United go to Larne Olympic while for Tobermore United it’s a trip to Shankill United.

St James Swifts are on their travels to Broomhedge Maghaberry while for Bangor it’s an away day at Ardstraw.

Brantwood, winners of the Intermediate four times down the years, meet Mossley in round one with Immaculata hosting Holywood and the reserves from Crusaders going to Comber Rec.
