MISKIMMIN PLANS QUICK RETURN AFTER

MARK MISKIMMIN says he plans to get straight back into football after resigning as player-manager of 18th Newtownabb­ey at the weekend.

The former Linfield and Glentoran striker held the reins at Cloyne Crescent for three seasons and clinched promotion with them last season after romping the 1C title. He says he’s proud of what he achieved with the Monkstown outfit, and has thanked them for giving him the chance to cut his managerial teeth there, but says Saturday’s abandonmen­t at Portaferry Rovers after an on-pitch melee was “the last straw”.

He admits he had been agonising over his position for a few weeks, and is now looking forward to a fresh challenge elsewhere.

“Yesterday was the final straw, I’ve been thinking about it for the last couple of weeks and the match got abandoned yesterday, it was ridiculous, an hour and 20 minutes down there to play 15 minutes, it’s madness, so I just thought that was it,” said Miskimmin

“Something happened off the ball, I don’t actually know what happened, and the ref just blew it up.

“It’s frustratin­g because I think we’ve had a decent start to the season, but it’s become a full-time job almost, doing what I was doing, and it was just getting too much. It’s one of those things unfortunat­ely.
