Family tell of loss after Michael killed in crash on ‘dream’ honeymoon
US tourist dies sightseeing with wife
His beautiful bride has to reimagine her life without her sweet Michael AILEEN MCKENNA AND WILL BRAAKSMA YESTERDAY
THE family of a US man killed in a road accident while on honeymoon here said they are “heartbroken” by their loss.
Michael and Caroline Munroe were sightseeing near Ballymoney, Co Antrim, when they were involved in the accident on September 25.
The crash, near the famous Dark Hedges tourist attraction, happened while the couple enjoyed a “dream” honeymoon, which they had postponed for a year after their wedding so they had time to plan and save.
Caroline, 30, is recovering after suffering injuries in the accident, which claimed the life of her “kind and loving” schoolteacher husband, 31.
Her mother Aileen Mckenna and brother Will Braaksma yesterday said their pain had been “eased by the kindness and support of so many Irish people”.
They also thanked emergency services who helped following the collision and members of the public who supported them when they travelled to Ireland to be with Caroline.
Ms Mckenna and Mr Braaksma added: “We thank the neighbours and first responders at the accident scene and the staff at both Causeway Coast and Glens and Altnagelvin Hospital.
“Michael was beloved by his family, friends and students, but especially by his beautiful bride Caroline who grieves this dreadful loss, re-imagining a future without her sweet Michael.”
