Eye will fight on

Battered Mcgregor says ‘battle won’

-

HUMILIATED Conor Mcgregor showed off a black eye but claimed his war with Khabib Nurmagomedov will go on after their weekend fight ended in chaos.

The Notorious’ return to the UFC resulted in a savage, fourth-round defeat before a mass brawl broke out outside the octagon, sparked by the furious Russian.

Khabib jumped out of the ring to attack one of Mcgregor’s teammates and the beaten fighter from Crumlin, South Dublin, took punches from two members of his rival’s camp.

But the defiant Irishman said after the fight he wanted a rematch and yesterday insisted: “We lost the match but won the battle. The war goes on.”

The 30-year-old is still in Las Vegas and showed off his battle scars on social media, with a large bruise underneath his left eye.

It is thought the injury was caused during the fight with Khabib and not in the melee that followed.

Mcgregor was also pictured drinking a glass of his Proper Twelve whiskey as he licks his wounds from a third defeat in his last five fights.

His conqueror also took to social media yesterday with his first words since his post-fight press conference.

In a jibe at the Irish star, Khabib said: “Brother to brother, why don’t you slow down, or else I feel embarrassed for you already.

“I told you I would tell you everything on October 6, or did you really want to beat me there?

“I apologise to everyone I’ve offended with my overall victory. To my true fans – you’re simply out of this world.” Meanwhile, Mcgregor’s family rallied around their man in the calm after the storm of the T-mobile Arena.

His mother Margaret said: “My family is proud of you Conor, next time. Be safe out everyone on all sides remember it’s a sport. Great athletes, angry fans.”

Sisters Erin and Aoife have been enjoying the sun and were pictured in Team Mcgregor bathing suits.

Aoife said: “Absolute legend. There’s no love like family love... my brother my hero.”
