WE’VE WON!

Medical cannabis victory

- BY JILLY BEATTIE

MEDICINAL cannabis will be available on prescription in the UK from November 1.

Currently the medicine can only be prescribed in exceptional circumstances and must be granted by a medical panel.

But yesteday’s announcement by Home Secretary Sajid Javid is a huge victory for campaigners. Exactly four months after Co Tyrone boy Billy Caldwell stepped from hospital in London having been treated with medicinal cannabis, Mr Javid said: “Today, the Government is laying the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2018 in the House.

“These regulations reschedule cannabis-based products for medicinal use and will come into force on November 1, 2018. The provisions will apply to England, Wales and Scotland.

“My officials continue to engage closely with the Department for Health in Northern Ireland, which intends to mirror these legislative amendments.”

Billy’s mum Charlotte said: “I feel very grateful personally and delighted for everyone who will now have a chance of trying this powerful and natural medication. KATIE Price doesn’t look in the brightest of moods as she clambers into her old grey Range Rover after pranging her bright pink one.

The glamour model, 40, was back behind the wheel yesterday, just one day after being arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

Her crash at 2am came after she gatecrashed her exto Kris Boyson’s 30th birthday bash in Bexleyheath, Southeast London, apparently I’m crying happy tears. It’s been a treasure just out of reach for what seems like forever, but to see it in writing from the Government is incredible.

“I’ll be thanking people for weeks – thank you Sajid Javid, and thank you to my team for never giving up.”
