REMEMBERING CULL
TRIBUTE NIGHT FOR BEATBOXER MICHAEL CULLEN AT THOMPSONS GARAGE ON WEDNESDAY EVENING
Belfast’s most revered hip hop night, Funkarama, is hosting a very special party next Wednesday night at Thompsons. Featuring a roster of the city’s finest Hip Hop DJ talent, beatboxers, DJS, dancers and singers, A Night For Cull is an event in memory of Michael Cullen, who sadly passed away in January of this year.
“We really just wanted to do something positive for Michael and his family,” explained Mark Mccourt, organiser of the gig.
“Cull was known throughout the UK and
Ireland for his immense talent and A Night For
Cull will be a massive line up of people that knew and loved
Cull and had the pleasure of working with him over the years.
“Michael touched the lives of every person he met,” Mark continued.
“He was so well liked and respected by everyone in the local music scene and he was a regular at many of the clubnights at Thompsons.
“He was a phenomenal talent but above all that he was just a phenomenal person.”
A Night For Cull will include club DJ sets from Hix, Jonboi, O One, Alan D, Nik Muzka, Mikey Magic, Blase and Slim Jim, a singing PA from the incredible Jai Sian, live street art with Glen Molloy, and Twitch and isodisco DJS on the terrace, with even more to be announced.
Thompsons also revealed a touching tribute to Cull last week, revealing a striking new mural on the wall of the club (below).
Created by legendary street artist Glen Molloy, Michael’s portrait follows in the footsteps of only three other music icons to have featured on the
wall. “Over the years we’ve had Carl Cox, Ice Cube and Run DMC feature on the wall,” Mark continued. “When it came to choosing a new icon, we felt we had our very own in Cull and there would be no better person to pay tribute to in this manner.”
Glen has also created a limited amount of artwork that will be auctioned on the night.
Entry is £5 or a greater donation of your choice and guestlist & VIP
