CRUES DO NOT GLACK SPIRIT
CRUSADERS supersub Jamie Glackin grabbed the headlines with a late winner in last night’s seven-goal Shield thriller at Seaview.
Glackin pounced midway through the second period of extra time to force the ball home after his initial effort had been tipped on to the post to fire Stephen Baxter’s men into the last four.
Rory Donnelly had briefly given Cliftonville a 3-2 lead in extra-time with his second of the night on 98 minutes, only for Philip Lowry to level from a corner a minute later (above).
The North Belfast derby rivals couldn’t be separated in normal time, with the Crues twice leading through Paul Heatley and Michael Carvill in the sixth and 52nd minutes.
Barry Gray’s men responded through Donnelly’s first of the
night on 24 minutes and forced extra-time when Ryan Curran made it 2-2 in the 84th minute. Meanwhile, Ballymena
United cruised into the last four with a 3-0 win over Championship outfit Ballyclare
Comrades at The Showgrounds.
Ryan Mayse fired the Sky Blues into an early lead before Leroy Millar made it 2-0 from the spot and Cathair Friel celebrated his 100th appearance with the third.
Larne booked their place in the next month’s semifinals with an impressive 3-1 win over top flight club Ards at Inver Park.
Goals from Ben Tilney, Davy Mcdaid and Martin Donnelly had the Championship leaders in control, before Kym Nelson pulled one back for the visitors on the hour.
