Reds stun Ron with late goal
Juventus 1 Man Utd 2
MANCHESTER UNITED completed a dramatic, late smash-and-grab to stun Juventus.
Cristiano Ronaldo looked to have condemned his former club to defeat with a brilliant 65th-minute volley.
But Spanish star Juan Mata – on as a second-half substitute – got United back on level terms with a clinically
dispatched free-kick in the 86th minute. Three minutes later, the ball was bundled into his own net by Alex Sandro, condemning
Juventus to a first defeat of the season and taking United closer to a place in the last 16.
The win, against all the odds after the wonder strike from Ronaldo (right), means United are now just two points off Juventus, who lead Group H, and two ahead of Valencia in third place.
Victory was also the perfect launchpad for United to go into Sunday’s crunch derby with local rivals and Premier League leaders Manchester City at the Etihad.
United boss Jose Mourinho could not help himself at the final whistle, striding on to the pitch and goading the Juve fans by cupping his hand to his right ear in a sarcastic manner.
Mourinho was confronted by defender Giorgio Chiellini for his inflammatory actions – in response to taunts by Juve fans at Old Trafford a fortnight ago – and was escorted off the pitch by United staff.
