United still have Mour work to do

-

LET’S not get too carried away by Manchester United’s late fightback to beat Juventus.

In tomorrow’s derby at the Etihad, they will be jumping straight from the frying pan into the fire.

Fellow pundit Martin Keown thought the 2-1 win over the Old Lady might be up there with United’s greatest results in Europe – but with respect, it wasn’t even their best one in Turin.

For me, coming back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 in a European Cup semi-final beats a thrilling away win in the Champions League group phase all day long.

What it does underline, beyond any doubt, is the players are right behind Jose Mourinho.

Since the comeback from 2-0 down against Newcastle, they rallied strongly at Chelsea, produced a stirring secondhalf fightback at Bournemouth and now a superb win after falling behind to Juve.

Although you might not approve of it, Jose Mourinho’s cupped-ear celebration on the final whistle shows the Reds boss has got his mojo back.

Let’s be honest, it’s more fun to have Jose (above) as ringmaster of the circus than brooding and frowning in the dugout in defeats to Brighton and West Ham.

As for his gesture after the game in Turin, it’s easier said than done to ignore thousands of fans taunting you almost non-stop for 90 minutes.

And Marouane Fellaini (above) may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it was Mourinho’s tactical switch to send him on in Turin which helped tilt the game in United’s favour. There’s nothing wrong with a sub who causes havoc.

Do I think United can win the Champions League this year? I doubt it very much.

In fact, the derby is likely to be a reminder that instead of being the best team in Europe, they may not even be the best side in Manchester.
