Antrim club pick up first win in U13 Section One after close game with Windmill Stars

CHIMNEY CORNER won a thrilling Daily Mirror under-13 Section 1 Lisburn Youth League game 4-3 against Windmill Stars.

Windmill shot out of the starting blocks to take the lead after 10 minutes through a Caolan Byrne direct free-kick and they controlled the opening stages.

Corner came back to take a 2-1 lead by the break. At a corner the ball broke for Nathan Williams and he hammered it into the roof of the net before Connor Johnston got in on the act.

Back came Stars after the restart and Eoin Kane played the ball back to Ben Mcgrath and his shot went in off the underside of the crossbar for the equaliser.

Corner were back in front when Reece Mccrea was on hand to volley home a free-kick from six yards out.

But it was all square again when Mcgrath scored from the penalty spot.

Alexander Lynn provided yet another turn of events when he restored Corner’s lead after being played in by Williams.

It was not quite over yet and in the last minute a ball bobbled about in the goalmouth before falling for Windmill’s Aaron Little but he pulled his shot wide.

It was Corner’s first win in this section but manager Gavin Mcconnell explained they had already been winning in the lower division before being moved up a few weeks ago. He added the team are also adjusting to their first year in an 11-a-side set-up.

Windmill’s boss Karl Mccaughey said he was pleased by their overall performance and picked out the two front men Kain Mccaughey and Pierce Patterson.

He explained they are working with a small squad at present and praised the help of assistant Vinny Doran.
