After Kloe’s death we want to warn kids of risks out there

Fundraisin­g tribute night for tragic teenager

FRIENDS of a young girl who died suddenly will celebrate her life next month at a special fundraisin­g event.

The Shine On You Crazy Diamond tribute night has been named after Kloe Aiken-smyth’s favourite song.

Pals of the tragic 16-year-old will come together to raise funds and watch local bands Helterskel­ter and The Rising.

A member of Addiction NI will speak to the young people at the start of the evening.

The Our Lady and St Patrick’s College student’s body was found on wooded ground at Burnside Park in the Four Winds area of South Belfast.

Her death has been linked to prescripti­on medication.

Susan Doherty, a cousin of Kloe’s mother Donna and general manager of the Belfast Barge visitor attraction, is organising the event.

She told the Mirror: “We just wanted to give Kloe’s friends a safe space to come and remember her.

“Local musicians have volunteere­d PEOPLE have been urged to remain vigilant after the latest victim of a spate of break-ins had his work van burned.

Homes in the Village area of South Belfast have been targeted with a man held at knifepoint in one incident.

Three houses were burgled last week, while a fourth was broken into to do it so all the money will be going to Addiction NI.

“Sadly she has passed away, but it’s important people get to celebrate her life.

“At the start of the night there’s a fella from Addiction NI who’s going to talk to the young people there.

“It’s important to get the message across about the dangers out there and what can happen.”

A Facebook post publicisin­g the event said: “On the 2nd during the early hours of Monday morning.

All the incidents occurred in the same part of the Donegall Road.

The victim of the latest incident at Kilburn Street believes an organised gang is responsibl­e.

He said: “I reckon they’d been breaking into houses around here then spotted my van and saw it as an November our beautiful Kloe was taken from us far too soon.

“We are holding an event in her honour for friends and family to celebrate and remember this remarkable young woman who touched us all.”
