We’ve stayed in the hunt without playing well... just wait till we click warns Spurs star Eriksen IT’S A GRIND OF MAGIC EMERY ENERGY CAN POWER GUNNERS

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN insists Tottenham are title contenders – and Chelsea are in their sights.

The Danish ace admits neither he nor fourth-placed Tottenham have been fully firing so far this season.

But Spurs have continued to grind out results and are just five points off the top after winning successive away games at West Ham, Wolves and Crystal Palace.

Unbeaten Chelsea are only a point ahead of Mauricio Pochettino’s men with the London rivals steeling themselves for Saturday night’s big derby at Wembley.

Eriksen, 26, a target for Real Madrid and Paris Saint-germain, believes it is a promising sign that Spurs are well in the hunt for the title and is confident their best is yet to come between now and May.

He said: “There is a lot of focus about the other clubs but again we have almost similar points.

“We are up there. Maybe we haven’t played the best football we have shown for the last few years.

“But we have still got the points. Sometimes that is necessary.

“That is how it goes, and at some point if it clicks and we get the points then we will be different.

“We will go for it and we will see where we end up. We will do our best and then, if we are lucky or not lucky, we will see.”

Eriksen, a £12.5million bargain buy from Ajax in 2013, has notched 41 goals and 50 assists in 180 topflight appearances for Spurs.

He is still searching for his first trophy in England but insists Pochettino’s side have raised expectations and proved they belong among the elite.

Eriksen said: “From what it was a few years ago to what it is now, people expect us to win every game – even against other top-six clubs.

“That’s how far it has turned around compared to what it was.

“Looking at trophies, we haven’t won anything but we have been getting fans and people to watch Spurs in a different light.”

A niggling stomach injury has restricted Eriksen’s Premier League impact this term but he started both Denmark’s Nations League ties against Wales and Ireland to help win promotion to Group A.

Now Eriksen maintains he is fully fit and he added: “We know the programme now until January is going to be games every three days. I think everybody wants to play.”

So Eriksen reckons he and Spurs have a lot to look forward to – including, of course, finally getting into their new stadium.
