Scarlett: I have no final fears

- BY JULIE Mc CAFFREY

SCARLETT Lee insists she has no nerves about competing in this weekend’s X Factor final.

The 21-year-old has been through so much to reach this point, she feels only excitement.

Scarlett said: “My mum taught me very early on how to expect rejection and move on. To be the last girl in the competition and to have made the final already makes me a winner.”

Being sent home from last year’s competition by Sharon Osbourne in the six-chair challenge was the most painful rejection Scarlett had endured since she first entered singing competitions aged 11.

Online trolls then made cruel jibes about her weight, hair and make-up.

She said: “Did I diet because people called me obese and ugly? No. The death threats and people who said they wished I had cancer upset me and I cried for a while. But then I thought, ‘There’s no way I’m hiding away’. It made me tougher. It made me constantly work to improve myself.

“So I’d love to meet Sharon Osbourne again. Last year she told me it was not my time and she was right.”

PRESSURE

If Scarlett beats Dalton Harris, 24, and Anthony Russell, 28, she hopes to prove pop stars don’t all come in a regulation size six.

She added: “There should be more normal-sized women for girls to look up to. Then no one would feel pressure, no one would feel ugly. Bullying and body-shaming has got out of hand and I want to do everything I can to help it stop.”

Scarlett, who lives with her parents in Epsom, Surrey, is adamant she will not leave her family and friends behind if propelled to stardom.

And she hopes to one day wed boyfriend Nathan, 19, who she began dating at 15.

Scarlett said: “I can’t think of anything better than to marry him and spend the rest of my life with him. He knows that even if I meet famous people at gigs, no matter what good-looking famous man might be in front of me, there’s no way I’d leave him.

“So if my hard work pays off and dream comes true by winning X Factor, no matter how much life changes Nathan will be by my side.”
