Mum & Dad made day emotional

- BY KEITH JACKSON

RYAN CHRISTIE last night opened up on the overwhelming moment he spotted his proud mum and dad celebrating his arrival as a big-time Celtic hero.

The 23-year-old was a picture of emotion after his heroics landed the Hoops a seventh-successive domestic trophy.

Christie’s progression as a Parkhead star was sealed when hit the winner in the 1-0 win Betfred Cup final win over Aberdeen.

The Scotland star was emotional enough at the full-time whistle knowing he’d completed his journey along a long road which saw him loaned out to Pittodrie for 18 months and have to fight for a future under Brendan Rodgers.

However, it was nothing compared to the splitsecond when he caught the eyes of his father Charlie and mother Sharon high in the South Stand amid jubilant scenes on the pitch by the Hoops.

Christie revealed: “It was amazing for my mum and dad to come down and see me.

“When the final whistle went, I looked up and managed to catch eyes with them.

“I got a bit emotional myself when that happened because it has been a long road.

“I’ll be honest, it was pretty overwhelming for me.

“It was always going to be a strange day in any case coming up against Aberdeen and it shows that football can work in funny ways sometimes.

“Seeing them brought that overwhelming feeling of happiness and I was delighted for them to be able to see that.”
