CARTER AT THE DOUBLE
Waring goals help see Hillsborough through to U15 Shield final with rivals
CARTER WARING scored two of the goals to help Hillsborough Boys reach the final of the under-15 Lisburn Youth Shield with a 4-1 win over Banbridge Town Juniors in the semi-final on Saturday.
They will play local rivals Lisburn Youth, who beat Windmill Stars in the other semi-final, in the New Year final.
It took Boro five minutes to go ahead through Cameron Kirkpatrick, whose shot at a corner kick went in off a post.
Ten minutes later Waring got the first of his two goals when he slotted home a cross from Timmy Orr, who had worked his way down the left wing.
Boro made it 3-0 on 20 minutes from another corner after the ball ran free to Grahame Lundy who chipped home from outside the box.
Waring got his second and Hillsborough’s fourth goal on 50 minutes when he shook off the last defender before finding the net.
With 10 minutes left Michael Connolly got a consolation goal which was probably the best of the game.
He cut in from the wing before finding the bottom corner of the net.
Banbridge manager Rory Hill said they never started and he was disappointed with the performance. He added: “We had a day off but credit to Hillsborough, they were the better team.”
On the other hand Hillsborough boss Rodney Latimer was delighted and praised a good team performance.
He said: “Special mentions for Orr, Lundy, John Scott, Kenzie Bradley and Jake Donaghy. And keeper Szymon Prabucki had a quiet day but did all that was asked of him.”
Latimer is one of three coaches with Hillsborough under-15s with Nick O’neill and former Linfield star, Michael Gault, who is now enjoying his time coaching the players of the future.
