GO ON... BE A MAN OF MEN

professional sport. All I do is think positively every day and so far it’s got me another 13 years of living.”

Now a grandfather of 10, 70-yearold Clemence, 70, revealed how his family has continued to support his fight against the disease with infectious energy.

“It’s great that I have got all my grandchildren to keep me busy,” he adds. “They are all very supportive and they help take my mind off things. The worst thing for someone in my position is to have too much thinking time, because no matter how positive a person you can be, there will be times when you are feeling a little bit low.”

Ray is now a devoted ambassador to Prostate Cancer UK, regularly wearing the charity’s iconic Man of Men pin badge and helping promote the charity’s key events across football, walking, cycling and golf. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men, with one man dying every 45 minutes. One in every eight men will suffer from the disease in his lifetime, while that risk is twice as high – one in four – for black men.

And after a stellar career spent saving shots, Clemence is now focused on saving lives.

“Just go to your local doctor and have a chat about the risk of the disease,” he stresses. “It’s as simple as that! We need to go public to make sure men do talk to each other about this.

“Talk about symptoms, how you’re feeling and hopefully that will be the trigger for more men to go and seek help.

“Get checked out. It’s nothing intrusive and could lead to a simple blood test that might save your life further down the line.”
