ROBBO: OUR TITLE QUEST IS FUELLED BY TOTAL BELIEF

- BY JOHN CROSS Chief Football Writer @johncrossmirror

ANDY ROBERTSON has warned Manchester City that Liverpool are ready to go for the jugular in their title showdown.

The Reds left-back says the team’s confidence is sky high and they travel to the Etihad believing they can win and take a “huge” step towards being crowned champions for the first time in 29 years.

Yet Robertson insists they are not worried about the growing pressure and expectation of being title favourites.

He said: “Of course it’s a huge game. If we win then we’re 10 points clear of them. But also on the flip side they will be looking at it that they can close the gap to four points. “Look, they’re a fantastic team, a very experienced team and they’ve been in this position before. “They’ve won the title. It’s something we’ve never had. They’re probably more experienced than us in this position but we look forward to it.

“We’re in a good moment just now and they will be looking to go full throttle into us. We’ll be wary of that but we need to be at our best and if we can, we can cause any team problems.

“I think there is pressure always playing for this club. Fans demand it and we demand it, so in terms of different pressures, we’re top of the league and we need to keep on going.

“To come through December unscathed with the fixtures we had is a good achievement but nothing is won in December, so we kick on now and go into 2019 full of momentum.

“It’s about using that properly and if we can, hopefully it’s a good year for us all. We have the confidence of winning every game we play and we take that attitude into every game, we are recovering well and are playing well, more importantly.

“Of course when teams slip up it is nice when we take advantage of that and we managed to do it when City dropped six points and Tottenham dropped three.

“But who’s to say during the season that they’re not in position if we drop points as we know how long this season is and we know it’s going to be very hard to go through it unbeaten.

“It’s up to us to give 100 per cent application to every game we play and if we do, we believe we can win every game. We know it doesn’t work out like that but we’re in a good moment.

“It’s a massive game, of course it is. It’s two good teams going at it and we look forward to it. But Tottenham will be looking forward to capitalise as well because we both play each other so both of us can’t pick up full points.

“I think they’re away to Cardiff so will be looking to bounce back. This will go the whole way but we’re in a good position just now. But it’s about continuing that and trying to build on every game that we play.” City broke all records on the way to winning the title last season, Pep Guardiola’s men sweeping aside their rivals.

They also created an air of invincibility and fear around them which Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp (above) seem to have this season.

Robertson said: “You need to ask other teams about that. We spoke about City last season and I’m sure every other team did. They were very hard to beat. We did it here in the league and the Champions League but in the league, not many people could touch them.

“But the thing is, they completed it and have their winners’ medal and the trophy.

“Just now, we have nothing.”
