- BY LOUIE SMITH and JEREMY ARMSTRONG

A YOUTH football coach was killed in a car crash just 15 minutes before he was due to stand trial accused of abusing 11 boys.

Kit Carson, 75, was driving when his Mazda 3 hit a tree.

The former Norwich City scout was facing 12 counts of indecent assault and one of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

One alleged victim said: “I get no closure from this now knowing Kit Carson has not been held accountable.”

Jeremy Benson, prose- cuting, told Peterborough crown court yesterday Carson died on Monday at 9.45am. The case was to start at 10am.

Born Michael Sean Carson, he was accused of sexually abusing lads under 16 from 1978, when he was 35, to 2009.

The Irish national had also worked with Peterborough United and Cambridge United, and once tried to sign a young David Beckham for Norwich. Many players he coached went on to have careers in the Premier League.

He later worked in Finland but was held in Cambridge in 2017 and charged in March 2018. He denied the charges.

At the site of the crash in Bottisham, Cambs, a large section of bark was missing from the base of a tree. No other vehicle was involved. His wife, Pauline, identified the body, the court heard.

There is no suggestion that Beckham was among players allegedly targeted.
