WELL-KNOWN TALENTED SINGER AND DRUMMER ON THE COUNTRY SCENE BARRY KIRWAN

-

Barry Kirwan is well-known on Ireland’s Country scene as a talented singer and drummer. Performing is in his blood as his father is Country legend Dominic Kirwan. But Barry has fast been making a name for himself with his music, building on the success of his debut album New Beginnings in 2016.

Barry will be taking to the stage at Belfast’s Grand Opera House to join Hugo Duncan and friends on Monday, February 18 for a night of pure Country magic.

Tell us about where you live

I live in a semi-detached house in the town of Omagh about a mile outside the town itself. I have lived here for a year and a half after living in the countryside for 16 years. I live with my partner Michelle and our 10 month old baby boy Joshua.

What’s the best thing about your home?

I think the best thing about my home is where it is situated. It’s so close to the town and it’s also right beside the countryside too. It’s a family estate so it’s a real feel good place to live.

Are you very particular about how you keep the house?

I’m not sure if I’m very particular about how I keep the house but I don’t really like too much mess and when you have a 10 month old it’s hard to keep the house tidy.

Who does the cleaning?

Michelle would do the cleaning 90% of the time but I do chip in every so often.

How often do you change your sheets?

We change the sheets about every two weeks but sometimes that’s more often if Joshua is sick on the bed.

Do you listen to much music or are you a telly in the background person? What are you listening to / watching at the minute?

I listen to a lot of music especially when I’m cooking or just in general doing something around the house. I could be listening to anything as I use spotify so it could be an American country artist today, a musical tomorrow, rock/pop the next day.

Where’s your haven in the house to get away and relax, read a book? Are you reading anything at the moment?

I wouldn’t be a big reader but when I do get a bit of quiet time I like to spend it in my wee studio practicing guitar.

If you’re partying at home, where do you hang out?

If there’s a party in the house people normally gather in the kitchen.

Are you much of a foodie, and if you are, what’s your signature dish?

I love to cook and I would say my signature dish is King prawn linguine.

Can you turn your hand to odd jobs and DIY or do you get someone in to do the work for you?

If it’s general DIY I always do it myself but if it’s any major jobs like anything to do with plumbing then I leave it to the professionals or else the house would be flooded.
