Katie has 14 days to pay £1.1k fine for driving while banned

KATIE Price told a court she was unable to immediately pay a £1,100 fine as she was banned from driving for a second time yesterday.

The 40-year-old reality star was handed a three-month disqualification after driving a Ford Fiesta while disqualified and without insurance.

The offence took place on the A24 near her West Sussex home on July 25 at 8pm while a sixmonth driving ban was in place.

Dressed in a poncho and Cossack-style hat at Crawley magistrates’ court, she was flanked by two bodyguards and advisers.

Prosecutor Gaynor Byng said Price had driven from a car park at Gatwick Airport to Dial Post, a hamlet near Horsham.

Price was with her children after going by train to London for her son’s medical appointment.

She phoned police, who confirmed she was banned after a newspaper told her of the breach, and she posted about it on Instagram, the court heard.

Price had been subject to a six-month ban for speeding since February 9. Paul Macaulay, defending, said she wrongly believed the ban had been dated earlier and it had ended.

He conceded she had never contacted the DVLA to reinstate her licence, saying she was “not the best” at paperwork.

Mr Macaulay said a further ban would cause “a lot of hardship” because of her son’s medical appointments and visits to her terminally ill mum.

Chairman Serena Stewart said they had kept the ban to “the minimum”.

She said: “Our advice is not to drive until you have your licence in your hand.”

Asked if she could pay before leaving court, she said: “No, I’m not.” She must settle the £1,295 bill including costs within 14 days.

Last year, Price was granted time by a judge to negotiate a deal with HMRC. The mother-of-five was once estimated to be worth around £40million.

She is in court next month after denying drink-driving while in a pink Range Rover.
